McCloud Dance Hall

With roots stretching back over a century, McCloud Dance Hall is one of Northern California’s most storied and beloved event spaces. Built in 1906 as a community gathering place with a grand maple hardwood dance floor at its heart, the hall has seen many chapters of life — from a bustling social hub for mill workers, to a gym, cafeteria, meeting hall for the Freemasons, and later a celebrated square and round dance center known as “Dance Country.” In recent years, new stewards of the building have worked with the community to preserve and revitalize this historic landmark, honoring its rich legacy of music, movement, and connection.

Today, McCloud Dance Hall is cherished not only for weddings, retreats, and special events, but as a dance sanctuary with an expansive floor that invites people to move, celebrate, and connect. Its unique character — from the hand-stenciled pillars dating to the 1920s to the layered stories of performers and dancers who’ve passed through — gives every event a sense of history and soul.

Each summer, the hall takes center stage as the main venue for Burning Tango, a vibrant, multi-day tango festival that has been calling dancers to McCloud since 2012. Conceived in the summer of that year when organizers discovered the hall’s irresistible charm and perfect dance floor, Burning Tango has grown into a beloved annual gathering of tangueros and tangueras from across the world.

From Friday through Sunday during the festival, the Dance Hall pulses with non-stop classes, traditional and alternative milongas, mixers, and social dance floors where beginners and seasoned dancers alike share the intimate rhythms of Argentine tango. As the central hub of the event — the Main Burn — it’s where the community’s energy peaks and where friendships, partnerships, and unforgettable moments are made beneath the rafters of this historic floor.

Whether you’re gliding across its timeless wooden floor during Burning Tango or planning your own special celebration, McCloud Dance Hall offers a living piece of history and a vibrant stage for unforgettable gatherings.
